In Victorian London, Iris Brown, a poor child, wrangles her way into the home and the affections of the Grenshall family.  But their legacy is more than the impressive Grenshall Manor and their money.  There is a dark secret within the mansion, that ruthless enemies will do anything to get at.
In our own time, a university student is brutally attacked after a night out and no-one, especially not 'Rose' herself, can work out why she isn't dead.  She also can't remember who she is or why the heck she's being attacked.  The answer is quite the surprise...

I have spent many an hour this week happily curled up with this book and a cup of tea.  There was plenty of action and mystery to be had, and I often read more than I intended (the ol' 'just one more chapter') because I wanted to know what would happen next.  It was not a chore to read, I enjoyed it a lot and I will be getting the next one, Primal Storm.

However.  I feel like this needed a couple of drafts more for polishing.  There were bits where it felt a little clunky, and while some of the main characters were well developed, others were not.  As I mentioned before, when the plot is fast paced and the characters are focused on saving the <insert imperiled thing here> the time they have to flesh themselves out is limited.  I do feel like we could have had a little less action and a little more character development, but I understand that it can be hard in this kind of plot driven storyline.  The other thing that has regrettably dragged my score down is that I was a little confused at the end.. I feel like there are still some things that I am missing.

But overall it was an enjoyable read, and I would encourage people to give it a go.

I had my brother pick the number this week, and like a git he picked pi.
So 3.14159.

The winner is :icontailsthewolf7: with a guess of 7!

Please note me or comment with your request and references.

How this works:

I will pick a random number between 1-100.

CP - Lunaea chibi by PuddingValkyrie CP - Kuleni Chibi by PuddingValkyrie Miss Prince/VDBiF FCs by PuddingValkyrie

Rules:

You have to be my watcher before this journal was posted.  This is a way to thank my watchers not something for passing moochers.  If you watch me after this journal you will have to wait until the next one to enter.

You may only enter ONCE.  If you try to guess more than once, I will only count your first guess and also I will be really annoyed.

You will have until Friday 8pm UK time to enter.

Previous winners are barred from entering for the next 4 competitions.  This is so people can only win once a month.

If more than one person guesses closest, I will either pick one of them or at random or I will just draw everyone a thing.  But this is up to me please don't whine if you won but someone else also won but then you didn't get a thing.

Guess away, my lovely watchers.

'I'll get a job', she'd thought. 'Earn my own ticket,' she'd thought. Lucinda's parents had agreed that it was a good idea. 'It'll teach you some responsibility,' they'd said.

Lucinda was currently staring down a dragon, dressed as a man, on only her first day in gainful employment. She suspected her parents would not think it such a good idea if they knew.

--------------
"Ambrosia. The Drink of the Gods. Thick, syrupy and vanilla flavoured, for some reason. It also contains enough calories to kill a mortal on the spot, so it's just as well that mortals are no longer mortals by the time they finish drinking it. Like Seralina, for example. She hadn't really meant to become a god. She hadn't taken the warning 'This will make of ye a god' seriously. It was her general policy not to trust any claim beyond 'It tastes all right, really'. She certainly didn't trust anything that sounded made-up or used words like 'dynamic'. Going round trusting words like 'dynamic' could get you into trouble. As it turned out, so could ignoring warning labels."
