Unicorn Fact No 1

Description

Apparently this is what I do with my time when I have a week off XD

Disclaimer: I don't actually mind that people are using the term 'incorrectly'. In fact, in MLP:FiM, since the term is used to refer to Twilight, Luna, Celestia and Cadence in the show itself, it is the correct term for MLP winged unicorns. Language evolves. If enough people start using a word to mean a certain thing, then it becomes correct.  If someone uses the word 'cool' to refer to something, your brain will probably jump to the 'good/stylish' meaning before it jumps to 'cold' meaning.

Having said that, I still find the usage a bit weird, especially outside an MLP context.  It's like if we started to refer to humans as 'foreheads'.

And I am one of those people who was born to play Q.I.

It's odd, because even in MLP that alicorn refers to the material that makes up an unicorn horn. There was a whole episode centered around the alicorn amulet - Which is hinted to be named such because it's made of alicorn. (Never stated, however.)

Then they turn around and call Twilight an alicorn. Retcon?

It is good to note that MLP isn't the only place where winged unicorns are referred to as 'alicorns.' W. B. Yeats' work comes to mind.

Since I'd imagine saying 'pegacon', 'winged unicorn' or exc. is awkward and a bit clunky, people just refer to them as alicorns because it sounds more elegant and befitting of a winged unicorn.

Maybe alicorn is both the substance of the horn, and the name of species in some cases?

Either way, it seems naming a winged unicorn is always an awkward manner. Winged unicorn sounds like they are primarily a unicorn and not a pegasus, while that may not be completely true - While pegacorn is a... Well, it's a strange term.
